Welcome! My name is Lucas, and I am a Brazilian researcher in Communication. I hold a B.A. in Social Communication and an M.A. in Communication and Consumption Practices, both from Escola Superior de Marketing (ESPM). I am currently a Ph.D. student in the Communication and Journalism program at Universidade Autonoma de Barcelona.

Fascinated by the interplay of technology and society, my current research focuses on the radicalization of young individuals within the online gaming environment. I aim to uncover the intricate dynamics that influence and shape radicalization pathways among the youth, merging my academic pursuits with a deep-seated curiosity about the evolving digital landscape.

I also have solid experience with data analysis, being that I’ve been working with data in the industry since 2015. My ultimate goal is to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical applications, merging scholarly insights with tangible real-world solutions.

Research Area

In my current research, I propose to study the influence of the gaming environment – i.e., online gaming, gaming forums, YouTube channels, Modder community, etc. – in the radicalization of young people. More specifically, I am to find out the links between the radicalization of young people and the consumption of far-right radical political information available in the gaming environment. This research is necessary not only because it tries to cover some gaps we found during the literature review but also because it faces a complex topic that is worrying several families, policymakers, and societies. We do so by applying mixed methods in multilevel research, aiming to create a map of political information consumption that may help society deal with the aforementioned problem better.

Areas of Interest

Areas that I have experience in working

Qualitative research

Qualitative research involves exploring and understanding phenomena through non-numerical data such as interviews, observations, and textual analysis. It aims to uncover insights, patterns, and meanings behind human behavior, attitudes, and experiences.

Quantitative research

Quantitative research focuses on collecting and analyzing numerical data to identify patterns, correlations, and statistical relationships. It involves structured methodologies, surveys, experiments, and statistical tools to derive empirical conclusions and quantify phenomena.

Python Programming

Python programming is a versatile language used in various fields, including data analysis, software development, and automation. It’s renowned for its simplicity and readability, offering powerful libraries and frameworks for tasks ranging from data manipulation and analysis to web development and artificial intelligence.

Data Visualization

Data visualization is the art of representing complex data in visual formats such as graphs, charts, and maps. It helps in conveying insights and patterns effectively, enabling easier understanding and decision-making by presenting data in a visually compelling and comprehensible manner.

Content/Textual analysis

Content or textual analysis involves examining written, visual, or audio content to understand themes, patterns, and sentiments. It delves into the structure, context, and meaning of communication to extract valuable insights, often used in media studies, marketing, and social sciences.

Data treatment

Data treatment refers to the process of cleaning, organizing, and preparing raw data for analysis. It involves tasks like data cleaning to remove errors or inconsistencies, data transformation for standardization, and data integration to merge different datasets, ensuring that data is accurate and ready for analysis.
